Q: Is "Be the Church" Neighborhood Impact affiliated with a local church?
A: Yes, we are grateful to be part of the Impact Ministries team at Colonial Presbyterian Church.
Q: Where has the Lord called "Be the Church KC" to invest?
A: Our current focus is meeting neighbors, establishing friendships, earning trust, caring for needs, sharing the gospel, and making disciples at a block of duplexes called Holmes Gardens. Our church rents a duplex there. In addition, we minister to a number of other neighborhood families throughout the Center School District who used to live at Holmes Gardens.
Q: What programs and activities do you offer for kids and students?
A: We offer weekly transportation and volunteer support at “Wornall Wednesdays” dinner and the Kids Connect program at Colonial’s Wornall campus. We also offer one-on-one mentoring throughout the week at our Holmes Gardens duplex. In addition, we host a weekly tutoring program in partnership with Center School District's Parents as Teachers. Finally, we send a team of readers into Indian Creek Elementary School as part of the Lead to Read program.
Q: What do you offer for adults?
A: We host a Discovery Bible Study for adults. In addition, we refer low income families to the Colonial’s Emergency Food Pantry. We also provide transportation to Sunday morning services, and to "Wornall Wednesdays" fellowship at Colonial.
Q: Do you do any special events?
A: Yes, we host annual block parties, serve days, 3-on-3 basketball tournaments, Thanksgiving baskets, Christmas gift donations, and back-to-school snacks. We also host weekly cookouts at Holmes Gardens during the summer months.
Q: Who are your ministry partners?
A: We currently partner with Colonial Presbyterian Church, Colonial Impact Ministries, Colonial Student Ministries, Colonial Kids, the Center School District, Parents as Teachers, Lead to Read, MFC Home Church, Freedom Fire, Mission Southside, My Father's House, Avenue of Life, Perception Funding, and the Scott Schwaller Memorial Fund for "At Risk" Children.
Q: Who is on your Advisory Board?
A: Jim Anderson, Valerie Fisher, Pam Forson, Rachel and Phil Hartwell, Tandren Jones, Cathy and Curt Johnson, Korey Kendrick, Laura and Matthew Krohne, Pastor Bob Lehleitner, and Kim Schwaller.
Q: How can I give?
A: You can give a one-time donation or a recurring payment option. Both are available online at bethechurchkc.org or via check. Please make all checks payable to Colonial Presbyterian Church, attn: Mark Potter, with "Be the Church" in the memo. Donations are tax deductable.
Q: What am I donating to?
A: Your money will go toward staff salary, as well as our mission to serve at-risk children and youth in the Center School District.
Q: Is my donation tax deductible?
A: Yes, as long as it is made payable directly to Colonial Presbyterian Church or through Perception Funding. All donations made through our "donate" button on this website will be tax deductible.
